Jan 15 - Feb 28, 2020 “Camera Club Tucson Exhibition” Oro Valley Library This exhibit showcases members’ best work encompassing B&W, color, nature, portrait, landscape, street photography, travel, and creative expression. The exhibition includes Chavez’s B&W images of Southern Medodist Univderity’s “The Wave” sculpture in Dallas, TX and “Descent” from the Dorotheum Auction House in Vienna, Austria. The Oro Valley Library, located at 1305 W Naranja Dr, Oro Valley, is open M, Tu, W, Th 9am-7pm, F 10pm- 5pm, Sun 9am-5pm. Oct 4 - Dec 22, 2019 “10 x 10” Fundraiser Exhibition” Tucson, AZ Tohoho Chul Botanical Garden’s 10 x 10 inch invitational fund raiser showcases artists that have that have previously exhibited in Tohono Chul’s galleries. The annual fund raiser supports the Garden’s numerous and varied educational and cultural projects throughout the year. Chavez’s images of the smelters in Hayden and Superior, Arizona will be included in the exhibit and available for sale. Feb 16 – Mar 14, 2019 “In the Steps of Masters” Tucson, AZ Camera Club Tucson (CCT) has been chosen once again to exhibit at Pima County’s Agua Caliente Park Ranch House Art Gallery. CCT’s Black and White Exhibit focuses on all aspects of southwest lifestyle and landscapes with subject matter coming from a place of intuition fueled by members’ impetuous desire to capture the stories that unfold around them. Chavez’s Smelter No. 1 and 2 were chosen for this exhibit. Jan 28 – Feb 9, 2019 “On Our Own Time 2019” Tucson, AZ The 9th Annual National Arts Program® Art Exhibit showcases the diverse and varied talents of the University of Arizona community. The exhibit is being held in the Bioscience Research Laboratories (BSRL) Lobby located at 1230 N. Cherry Avenue. Chavez is exhibiting "Colina", a vibrant abstract interpretation of the colorful hillsides of Guanajuato, Mexico. Nov 26, 2018 - Feb 6, 2019 "Copper State" Tucson, AZ The exhibition provides proof that amongst the five C’s forming the core of Arizona’s early economic success, it is COPPER, more than Climate, Cattle, Citrus, and Cotton, that has become the artistic ‘ore’ for artwork, nostalgia, and inspiration. The exhibit features an exceptional array of paintings, photographs, textiles as well as three dimensional artwork inspired by the Copper State theme. Chavez's copper Smelter images are on display at the exhibit reflecting his recent foray into world of B&W photography. New tools and technologies have freed today’s photographers from traditional photographic processes providing them with greatly expanded opportunities and an unprecedented spectrum of artistic expression and creativity. The exhibit “Any Thing Goes” is a reflection of the expanded vision and the new diversity and vitality that defines today’s photographers. Apr 5 - 28, 2016 "The Abstract Show Tucson, AZ Chavez’s "Ladera de Colores" / "Colorful Hillside" was juried into Tucson's Artful Living Gallery's "Abstract Show". The gallery is located at One Broadway Blvd. at Stone Ave. The abstract piece is a departure from Chavez’s traditional impressionist images and afforded him the opportunity to experiment with new techniques and some of the latest graphic-art software which allows for the use the shapes, forms and colors from the original photograph to create the final piece. The image can be viewed at click here Nov 2 - Nov 14, 2015 "Dia de los Muertos-2015" Tucson, AZ Chavez's "Fantamas" is featured in Raices Taller Gallery's annual homage to Dia de los Muertos / Day of theDead, a cultural celebration in the tradition of the Hispanic southwest. The exhibition included paintings, sculpture, photography & mixed media work along with personal tributes and remembrances in the form of altars & ofrendas. Raices Taller is located at 218 E. 6th Street, just east of 6th Ave. The opening reception is on Monday, Nov 2nd from 6:00-9:00 pm. Aug 1 - Aug 31, 2015 “Potpouri” Tucson, AZ Chavez's artwork was exhibited in the gallery at Unity Church of Tucson which showcases the work of Tucson artists from both the Southern Arizona Artists Guild and the Watercolor Guild. The exhibition consisted of potpourri of images from Chavez's Pueblo de Colores, Colonial Mexico and Botanicals collections. Unity of Tucson is located at 3617 N Camino Blanco, Tucson, AZ. April 23 – July 14, 2015 “The Red Show” Oro Valley, Arizona The theme is all about RED! This unique juried show was curated by the Southern Arizona Artists Guild color RED will figure prominently in the over 50 works on display. The exhibit ran the full gamut of mediums including acrylic, water color, oil, collage, photography, colored pencil etc. The exhibit is on display at Ventana Medical, 1910 E Innovation Park Dr. in Oro Valley, AZ. Chavez is exhibiting his "Portal con Flores Amarillos" which features vivid RED walls, a weathered door and the spring growth of new vines and yellow flowers from the Pueblo de Colores collection. May 4 – May 16, 2015 “On Our Own Time 2015” Tucson, Arizona The 5th Annual National Arts Program® Art Exhibit showcased the diverse and varied talents of the University of Arizona community. The exhibit was held in the Student Union Gallery on the U of A campus. Chavez is exhibiting "Water Lilies" inspired by Monet's garden in Giverny and "Colina de Colores" from the colorful hillsides of Guanajuato Mexico. Apr 11 & 12, 2015 "WAMO and Borderlands Bacchanal Festival" Tucson, Arizona First annual Warehouse Arts Management Org (WAMO) and Borderlands Brewery hosted a Music, Art and Comedy Festival showcasing some of Tucson's finest artists. Chavez exhibited recent works from Tucson's Barrio and Presido Historical Districts and from a 2015 trip to Colonial Mexico. The Warehouse District is located on Toole Ave between So. 6th Ave and 9th Ave. The Festival runs from 3:30 Sat until 5:00 Sunday. Oct 1 - Nov 30, 2014 "Dia de los Muertos/All Souls Day" Tucson, Arizona Borderlands Brewing Company, in Tucson's Historic Warehouse Arts District, hosted an exciting exhibit centered on the spirits, fantasmas and ghosts of Mexico's "Dia de los Muertos/All Souls Day." The show commemorated the 25 Annual Tucson All Souls Procession and features works by some of Tucson finest local artists providing their interpretive expressions to the symbols and rituals of this special day. Borderlands is located at , 119 E. Toole Ave., Tucson, AZ. Proceeds of the fundraiser to benefit the Many Mouths One Stomach non-profit organization. The exhibit can also be viewed during Borderlands regular business hours, Wed & Thurs 4:00 to 9:00 pm and Friday & Sat 4:00 to 10:00. Aug 11 - Sep 14, 2014 "Pueblos de Colores" Tucson, Arizona Chavez's colorful images of Tucson’s Barrio and Presidio Districts and the Silver Cities of Colonial Mexico were featured in an exhibit at Borderlands Brewing Company, in the Historic Warehouse Arts District. The exhibit offered a rare look into this emergent art form as well as look at the rich and varied architecture of the 1700 and 1800’s. Opening reception held Saturday, August 16th, 5:30-7:30 . Borderlands is located at 119 E. Toole Ave., Tucson, AZ. Nov 8 - Dec 18, 2013 "Comings and Goings" Tucson, Arizona The Tucson Botanical Gardens, Porter Hall Gallery, highlighted the talent of local artists and their diverse interpretations of the desert southwest and its landscapes. The exhibit featured Chavez's photography, watercolors by Julie Freshwater, and Kathy Robbins and acrylics by Carol Lucas. Mar 8 – Apr 6, 2013 “On Our Own Time” Tucson, Arizona The 3rd Annual National Arts Program® Art Exhibit showcased the diverse and varied talents of the University of Arizona community. The exhibit was held in the Student Union Gallery on the U of A campus. This Exhibit was Open to the Public with an opening reception at 12 Noon, Monody. March 18th, 2013. Chavez exhibited his image "Corner Market" from the Pueblo de Colores collection. Nov 3 - Dec 22, 2012 "The Holiday Bazaar" Tucson, Arizona WomanKraft Art Gallery's 26th Annual Holiday Exhibit and Bazaar was filled with amazing art and crafts highlighting the varied mediums and diverse techniques of Southern Arizona’s emerging talent as well as its established artists. April - May 2010 "Photographic Painting in the Digital Age" Athens, Greece The solo exhibit featured the software innovations that allow photographers to re-master photographic images into digital paintings. The exhibit was sponsored by the Artist Easel Program at the U.S. Embassy in Athens. October - December 2009 "Greece and the Sea" Athens, Greece The Artist Easel Program at the U.S. Embassy in Athens sponsored the group exhibit featuring a variety of visual media. The beauty of the sea and coastal areas of Greece has inspired artists for generations. The exhibition featured a diversity of magnificent scenes found around Greece--ranging from Greek children playing on the beaches, colorful fishing boats, and island evening sunsets. January - March 2009 "Missions and Madonnas" Athens, Greece The solo exhibit featured the California Missions built in the 1700's by Father Junipero Serra during the height of Mexico's Colonial period. The exhibit also included images of La Virgin de Guadalupe, Mexico's patron saint, as well as florals from the missions' gardens. The exhibit was held at the U.S. Embassy Consular Gallery. October - Dec 2008 “Autumn Impressions” Athens, Greece The group exhibition at the U.S. Embassy featured a collection of artwork created by both American and Greek artists celebrating the beauty of Autumn. The exhibition included a diversity of art styles and media in which each artist had been inspired in a unique way by this colorful season. June - July 2007 "Pueblo de Colores" Tucson, Arizona The solo exhibit at the Joel D. Valdez Main Library depicted Tucson’s colorful historical neighborhoods and architecture representative of the 1800’s Mexican craftsmen and Hispanic culture. The exhibit was funded in part by the generous support of the Tucson Pima Arts Council benefiting the community and promoting awareness of the arts. To view exhibit click here. December 2006 Murphy Gallery, St. Philips in the Hills Tucson, Arizona Chavez was featured in an exhibit which featured his Mixed Media Fine Art Photography and watercolors by artist Carol Taylor. March - April 2006 Collectiv Photographic Arts Tucson, Arizona Chavez was one of five photographers exhibiting works showcasing the diversity of photographic expression resulting from the dynamic innovations occurring in digital photography. The Collectiv Exhibit was featured in an article in the Tucson Weekly. January 2006 Wild Oats Café Exhibition Tucson, Arizona Chavez was featured in a solo exhibit showcasing Southern Arizona artists. The show featured images from Tucson Historical Neighborhood Series. October 2004 Murphy Gallery, St. Philips in the Hills Tucson, Arizona The art exhibit showcased watercolors by artist Marleen Holten as well as Chavez's Mixed Media Fine Art Photography. Chavez featured images from his Pueblo de Colores series of Tucson's historic Barrio and Presidio Districts.
