April - May 2010                          "Photographic Painting in the Digital Age"                      Athens, Greece

The exhibit featured the software innovations that allow photographers to re-master photographic images into digital paintings. Applying the  basic principles of composition and color, the photographer is able to re-master original photographs in the virtual darkroom. cropping, editing brightness, contrast and color then digitally applying layers of brush strokes and other art effects in varying degrees and intensities to produce the final digital paintings. The exhibit was sponsored by the Artist Easel Program at the U.S. Embassy in Athens.

 

October - December  2009                      "Greece and the Sea"                                      Athens, Greece

The Artist Easel Program at the U.S. Embassy in Athens is pleased to present this new exhibit  featuring a variety of visual media. The beauty of the sea and coastal areas of Greece has inspired Artists for generations.  The exhibition features a diversity of wonderful scenes found around Greece--ranging from the blue hues of the Aegean Sea,  Sailboat races,  Greek children playing on the beaches, colorful fishing boats, and evening island sunsets.  

 

January - March 2009                             "Missions and Madonnas"                                     Athens, Greece

The exhibit features the California Missions built in the 1700's by Father Junipero Serra during the height Mexico's Colonial period. The exhibit also includes images of La Virgin de Guadalupe, Mexico's patron Saint, as well as florals from the missions' gardens. The exhibit is being held at the U.S. Embassy Consular Gallery.

 

October - Dec 2008                              “Autumn Impressions”                                       Athens, Greece

The exhibition at the U.S. Embassy is a collection of artwork created by both American and Greek artists celebrating the beauty of the season of autumn.  The exhibition includes a diversity of art styles and media in which each artist has been inspired in a unique way by this colorful period of the year.  Chavez's 16x20 giclée print "October Sunset" is included in the exhibit and was shot in Toledo Spain in the fall of 2002.  

 

June-July 2007                                        "Pueblo de Colores"                                                     Tucson, AZ

The exhibit at the Joel D. Valdez Main Library depicts Tucson’s colorful historical neighborhoods and architecture representative of the 1800’s Mexican craftsmen and Hispanic culture. The  exhibit was funded in part by the generous support of the Tucson Pima Arts Council benefiting the community and promoting awareness of the Arts. To view exhibit click here.

 

December 2006                        Murphy Gallery, St. Philips in the Hills                                  Tucson, AZ

The month long exhibit displayed watercolors by artist Carol Taylor and Mixed Media Fine Art Photography by Dan Chavez. Dan featured images from his Sept 2006 shoot in Argentina and Uruguay as well as his June 2006 shoot of the California Missions. To view exhibit click here.

 

March-April 2006                                 Collectiv Photographic Arts                                            Tucson, AZ

Dan was one of five photographer exhibiting works showcasing the diversity of photographic expression resulting from the dynamic innovations occurring in digital photography. The show was well received and featured in an article in the Tucson Weekly.

 

January 2006                                         Wild Oats Café Exhibit                                              Tucson, AZ

Dan's art work was featured in a month long solo art exhibit at the Café. The show depicted images from Dan's 2004 Tucson Historical Neighborhood Series.

 

October 2004                             Murphy Gallery, St. Philips in the Hills                              Tucson, AZ

The month long art exhibit showcased watercolors by artist Marleen Holten as well as Dan Chavez's Mixed Media Fine Art Photography.
